ProLogis’ proposals for a distribution warehouse scheme at New Greenham Common near Newbury Berkshire have been thrown out by councillors. Traffic generation, pollution and the visual impact of the buildings were cited as reasons for refusal. ProLogis has been trying to get permission for two years to build some 670,000 sq ft of distribution space. It acquired the 42-acre site in 2005 from Sainsbury’s. A scheme put forward in 2006 was rejected on similar grounds in March 2007. Local parish councils objected to the original scheme because of traffic volumes, noise and light pollution as well as visual impact. The original application is up for appeal shortly.
