Iveco has unveiled its new Eurocargo range of medium trucks in the UK. Available between 7.0 and 18 tonnes, the trucks feature – for the first time – an automated EuroTronic transmission as standard. Usually reserved for its heavy trucks, Iveco reckons shifting to automated gear boxes in its lighter vehicles is necessary for urban distribution drivers subject to stop-and-go traffic.
The Euro 5-compliant trucks feature Selective Catalytic Reduction, four and six-cylinder engines. And the gear boxes, which offer automated and semi-automated mode, come with a software control package designed to help reduce fuel consumption.
Safety features include brake pads with increased lining thickness and a 35 per cent increase in break pad volume, which will help lower brake servicing costs. Anti-lock braking is available as standard, and anti-slip regulation is available as an option. The trucks feature an electronic stability programme, with full air brakes, providing selective wheel braking to help ensure directional control and anti roll-over control. Additional safety features are a hill-holder function, and an audible parking brake warning system, which sounds if the driver’s door is opened without the park brake being applied.
