John Lewis Partnership has enlisted Kuehne + Nagel to provide logistics support ahead of plans to open more department store across the UK.
Under the agreement K+N will supply a range of co-ordinated services, including storage for equipment needed for the fit-out of new stores at its 330,000 sq ft retail support warehouse in Derbyshire.
At this site items such as fittings, racks, point of sale display furniture and signage will be assembled, consolidated and then delivered to the new store in individual consignments depending on the specific needs of the department it is for.
Through this procedure K+N hopes to reduce the amount of time John Lewis staff spend receiving and handling goods on site, speeding up the installation process and overall time to opening, as well as reducing the risk of loss or damage.
The system has already been used for new John Lewis store openings in Cambridge and Liverpool.
