Scottish and Southern Energy has chosen DHL Exel Supply Chain to handle its domestic waste metal recycling. The three-year contract will see DHL vehicles collecting disused boilers, radiators and pipe work from homes in Scotland, before transporting waste items onto recycling centres.
As part of the recycling process, engineers sort the metal into categories at the point of collection, meaning material is only handled once, which helps to reduce costs. DHL is using its and trace system to maximise fleet efficiencies and ensure that back-hauling (employing otherwise empty trucks) is used wherever possible during the collection of waste.
Stephen Forbes, head of energy services at Scottish and Southern Energy, said: “This contract ensures that all of that waste is responsibly recycled.”
