Michelin has launched an environmentally-friendly tyre designed to help hauliers slash fuel costs and reduce emissions. The X Energy Savergreen tyre could help transport companies save 500 litres of fuel per truck and reduce gas emissions by 2.5 tonnes over the tyre’s life.
The tyres are tipped to improve safety with a seven per cent grip increase compared to previous generation XDA2+ energy tyres.
The tyre is now available in Germany, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain in the 315/70R22.5 dimension. They will be available in the UK and other European countries in early 2009.
Both Renault and Volvo have approved the Savergreen. Renault’s trial results showed a 0.5 of fuel saving per 100 kilometres with the new tyre compared with its predecessor, which was already well known for its fuel economy.
Volvo is using the Savergreen on its latest generation trucks.
