Electrical retailer Comet has signed a five year deal with Wincanton to manage its newly built south eastern distribution centre in Harlow, extending its long standing relationship with the company.
The 380,000 sq ft site is located a mile from the retailer’s old River Way facility and is 90,000 sq ft larger than its predecessor to incorporate any future growth.
It has 100,000 pallet locations and the capacity to handle more than 750 units per year.
From the site Wincanton will deliver product to Comet stores in the South East, as well as home delivery platforms within the region. In addition, it will recover end-of-life electrical stock from customers’ homes and transfer it for reuse or recycling at its Billingham WEEE facility.
Doug Bingham, project manager for Comet, said: “We’re very excited to have this new centre up and running in Harlow; it’s down to incredible teamwork between Comet and Wincanton that we have the site operational after just under a year under construction.”
All services and employees from the old site have relocated to the new Edinburgh Way centre.
