Archival storage solution company, Data and Records Management, gained 3,000 sq m of additional storage space at one of its warehouses when it chose a mezzanine floor solution from The Invicta Group.
The storage specialist designed and installed a four-tier mezzanine floor for the company, which was fully encased within a Durasteel fire-proof vault, designed to protect and store the company’s sensitive digital media and confidential documents.
Invicta needed to design and incorporate the vault into a 100,000 sq ft warehouse with an 18m roof height without compromising on space within the cube of the building. It also needed to ensure that the core box storage operation of the warehouse could continue working efficiently alongside the new vault operation to maintain service levels.
As a result, Invicta built a 676 sq m, four-tier mezzanine floor in one corner of the warehouse to a height of 15m and encased the structure in Invicta Durasteel on all four sides. Durasteel is a four-hour, fire-rated product that has been tested in the UK to comply to all relevant parts of BS 476, as well as international standards such as Factory Mutual, Underwriters Laboratories, and EDF. Durasteel has also achieved the stringent Certifire approvals and was installed on the underside of each level of the mezzanine floor to provide an independent four-hour fire rated compartment to each floor level. The structure was completed within ten weeks.
To maximise its storage capacity, 20,000 linear feet of mobile storage units were installed across the floor levels within the vault. The vault was smoke and pressure tested, and the mezzanines tested to support 9.6 kN/sq m. If a tenant doesn’t want the same warehouse layout as the previous owner, they will have to grind the floor to reduce the markings.
