St Austell Brewery has snapped up the 100,000 sq ft former Borders Books warehouse on the St Columb Major Business Park, near Newquay, as a new regional distribution centre.
Agent Alder King, which negotiated the assignment of the leases on the warehouse at an undisclosed rent, said that this is the biggest industrial leasehold deal completed in Cornwall so far this year.
St Austell Brewery was founded in St Austell in 1851 and has since become one of the largest private companies in Cornwall. The company is also one of the largest employers in Cornwall, where most of its 170 pubs and hotels are located.
Tim Smart of Alder King said: “It is rare that industrial units of this size reach the market in Cornwall and this is one of the few distribution centres in the region. This is undoubtedly the largest industrial leasehold deal completed so far this year.”
James Staughton of St Austell Brewery, said: “The new regional distribution centre is modern, spacious and well designed. It will enable us to further improve our service standards to the 2,000 pubs, hotels, restaurants and other licensed premises we supply in Cornwall and to help maintain our position as the leading wholesale supplier in the region.”
