Sales brokers Jenks has chosen Wincanton to design and manage a 320,000 sq foot warehouse and co-ordinate the distribution of around 40 loads per day.
The operation will be served by a dedicated fleet of some 20 vehicles with the capacity to ship 50 million cases a year. Jenks reckons that the Milton Keynes-based operation will be the first of its kind in Europe to offer brands a full out-servicing solution.
Jenks operates in the grocery, drinks and foodservice sectors and 18 months ago announced a new strategic drive to become Europe’s leading grocery sales brokerage by attracting major brands to consider this route to market.
Jenks’ revenue has grown fourfold during the last five years to a sales turnover of £200m and the company bases its offering on six key areas: sales; sector development; customer marketing; field marketing; supply chain; finance and administration.
Following a review of the supply chain, Wincanton was selected as logistics partner and advisor for the creation of the new site and warehouse. By delivering all stock from the warehouse using a single central fleet, Jenks and Wincanton will increase efficiencies and reduce food miles.
Jenks joint-managing director Ambrose McGinn said: “We’re committed to developing new sustainable distribution solutions; providing world-class service; and encouraging people and skills development.”
