Approximately 500 staff at Woolworths distribution centres across the UK will lose their jobs at the end of December as stores will be ceasing to trade at the beginning of January.
The administrator, Deloitte, said it was moving towards “the closing down sale period” and will be shutting stores in groups of 200 on 27th and 30th December, as well as 2nd and 5th January, resulting in 27,000 job losses.
Neville Kahn of Deloitte said around 300 stores are under offer to other retailers and it is continuing to have discussions with parties to buy the business, including the wholesale division Entertainment UK.
