Commercial vehicle drivers saw pay rises of some three per cent last year, according to the ninth annual survey by Incomes Data Survey and the Road Haulage Association.
It found that the average hourly rate for LGV driver licence category C+E is £8.25 per hour, with gross average weekly earnings of £493.45
And the average hourly rate for LGV driver licence category C is £7.95 per hour, with gross average weekly earnings of £433.62. The median pay rise was three per cent.
Ruth Pott, the RHA’s director of employment affairs, said: “The beginning of the economic downturn and increasing fuel prices early in 2008 are reflected in these pay settlement figures. It is of great concern that around a quarter of respondent companies predict reductions in their workforce in 2009.”
