The 2009 MAN everywoman in Transport & Logistics awards are now open for entry.
The awards were created, in association with Skills for Logistics, to highlight the contributions that women are making to the sector to encourage more women to pursue a career within the field.
Maxine Benson, co-founder and director of everywoman, said: “The gender boundaries in terms of career are gradually being broken down and these awards are demonstrating that transport and logistics is a sector where women can prosper and succeed.
“Anyone working in the industry knows that if you want to succeed in it, you have to give 110 per cent but if you do, you will get 110 per cent support in return. The objective of these awards is to uncover role models whose achievements demonstrate that the industry has a lot to offer those prepared to take on that challenge. Not enough women understand what a career in the industry could look like or the opportunities it offers, these awards do that.”
Categories include: rising star of the year, industry trainer, commercial driver and director of the year, with a number of new categories added to this year in a bid to target a wider audience.
The MAN everywoman in Transport & Logistics awards look to commemorate women who are succeeding across various sectors in the industry.
Dr Mick Jackson, chief executive officer of Skills for Logistics, added: “Workforce diversity is a key factor in ensuring that the logistics sector moves forward. It is exciting to see so many women contributing to the future of such a vital sector to the UK and indeed global economy.
“By celebrating the achievements and encouraging recognition of women in the logistics sector these awards help to raise the profile of logistics and demonstrate the opportunities available within it.”
While Des Evans, chief executive of MAN Truck and Bus UK, which sponsored the inaugural awards in 2008, said: “We at MAN have a long established programme of encouraging women to enter and excel in what is traditionally seen as a male dominated industry.”
The award ceremony and luncheon will be held at the Marriot Hotel, Grosvenor Square on 14th May 2009.
Nominations will close on 27th February 2009. Entries can be made online at: www.everywoman.com
