Vehicle manufacturer Ford has outsourced its materials handling management requirements to Gefco UK.
Under the agreement, Gefco will help manage Ford’s container logistics through its GefBoxSystem, which offers reusable plastic boxes, pallets and covers for parts required by its UK engine production facility from suppliers across Europe.
Suppliers order GefBox products through a web-based service. These are then delivered, filled and sent through Gefco’s supply chain to Ford’s UK plant where they are unloaded and made ready for collection.
Boxes and pallets are then taken to one of Gefco’s nine European washing centres to be prepared for re-use.
Gefco handles 3.5 million boxes across Europe each day using the system.
