More than 100 bodybuilders gathered at Stockport Football Club yesterday, (18th February), for a technical briefing hosted by Iveco, which focused on preparing for EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval.
The seminar, believed to be the first held by any full-range commercial vehicle manufacturer in the UK, saw presentations from Tony Hopkins, Iveco’s homologation and bodybuilder manager; Colin Wild, technical manager at the SMMT and Michael Hepworth, senior legislation engineer at the Department of Transport’s Vehicle Certification Agency.
Commenting on the event, Hopkins said: “EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval carries significant value and importance to our industry and we felt it was an important opportunity to interact with bodybuilders and to assemble a group of specialists to answer their questions.
“The focus of the event was about explaining what EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval is, how it will work, and how Iveco can support bodybuilders in ensuring the process is as seamless as possible. This is new legislation for everyone in the industry –
we are all in the same boat – but it’s essential to be fully prepared to help ensure consistency for our customers.”
Iveco is planning a similar event to be held for bodybuilders located in the south.
