Schmitz Cargobull has launched a range of rigid frame trailers and a curtainsider trailer with reinforced sides, designed for use in industries which handle large amounts of loose materials.
The trailer manufacturer is also set to revamp its UK site near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, which it says will make it: “one of the most advanced multi-product trailer production lines in the world”.
The new line will boost capacity at the plant and increase the number of different trailer models built in the UK.
Tom Macallan, Schmitz Cargobull’s managing director, said: “Before the changes to our production facility, we operated two separate factories – each producing a single product range: reefers and curtainsiders. The new production line enables us to produce six different trailer ranges on a single world class line.
“We will achieve higher throughputs from the single line than we had previously attained from the individual reefer and curtainsider sites.”
The single line goes live in March 2009.
The trailer manufacturer is also set to expand its presence across the UK with the opening of several regional business centres.
The centres will hold large stocks of spare parts, which will enable Schmitz Cargobull to offer same-day and next-day delivery services.
