Atlas Ward is working on a project to build a one million square foot import storage facility in Teesport for Tesco.
The contract was awarded by main contractor Bowmer & Kirkland on behalf of the retailer.
The structure will consist of a single warehouse with a high and low bay section. In addition there will be a number of ancillary pods to the low bay including in/out pod, a mechanical handling equipment maintenance workshop pod, a battery charge pod, stair enclosures and a separate vehicle maintenance unit building.
Atlas World will be responsible for the design, fabrication and erection of nearly 4,220 tonnes of structural steelwork as part of the project.
The facility will be built on brownfield land beside the future Northern gateway Container Terminal and is due for completion in early 2010, creating hundreds of new jobs.
