Delhaize will optimise its supply chain with the scheduling and collaboration functionality of the RedPrairie solution.
Delhaize has selected the RedPrairie Transport Management module after reviewing five other vendors. Five Delhaize distribution centres will use the system to manage inbound deliveries more efficiently and optimise dock usage. Some 1,500 suppliers will plan their deliveries using the online collaboration portal. The five DCs serve 775 points of sale in Belgium.
Using the collaboration portal, suppliers will plan their deliveries themselves. Warehouse planners will monitor the plan and adapt it where necessary; suppliers will then receive an automatic notification. Delhaize will thereby manage stock levels and ensure that inbound deliveries perfectly match dock availability. At the moment planning is a manual process which results in long waiting times for trucks arriving at the DCs.
“The RedPrairie Transport Management solution is an essential part of our new logistics infrastructure,” said Jurgen Limbourg, supply chain co-ordinator at Delhaize. “With this solution we can easily manage the arrival of trucks. We know how long an average delivery takes and will be able to compare that against the actual time taken. This allows us to make suppliers accountable for their performance.”
