There has been a dramatic drop in demand for timber packaging and pallets, according to John Dye, president of the Timber Packaging and Pallet Federation (TIMCON).
Talking at the group’s general meeting last month, Dye said TIMCON would be lobbying politicians in Britain, specifically to highlight the value of timber and timber packaging, as an employer and generator of income.
He said the organisation would also be calling for businesses in the industry to group together and speak with a common voice in order to tackle the issues it is facing today, notably the economic downturn and the redraft of the ISPM15 compliance scheme, the standard for the treatment of packaging made from solid wood.
TIMCON is continuing to work with a number of groups to influence the European proposal and redrafting of the global ISPM15 regulations.
