Logistics consultancy Davies & Robson has appointed Andrea Harris lean specialist to work with clients to take waste and cost out of their supply chains.
Harris joins from retail fixtures manufacturer Eden Industries where she was responsible for the implementation of lean techniques within the manufacturing and logistics.
She said: “Inefficiencies in logistics operations usually stem from problems further upstream in the production system. However, the critical point in any supply chain is distribution – the point at which customer demand is met – and it is therefore logical to align business functions in support of logistics.
“For example, lean techniques enable businesses to facilitate pull systems whereby stock levels, thoroughly assessed for risk, are managed through effective demand and production analysis. This supports levelled continuous flow production which, in turn, delivers reduced man, machine and materials costs and alignment of the overall efforts of the organisation in support of the next process and, ultimately, the customer.”
