Atlas Ward has started work on a new £13 million multi-temperature depot in Paddock Wood for foodservice distributor 3663 First for Foodservice, replacing three existing sites.
The “dog leg” hub will total more than 130,000 sq ft, including a three storey external office, and will use nearly 600 tonnes of structural steelwork.
It offers 22,000 sq ft more space than the three sites currently in use and will include a 48,000 sq ft chilled area, designed to improve 3663’s delivery of fresh and chilled products across the UK.
Environmental impact has also been taken into account – all electricity will be generated from renewable sources and a solar thermal energy system will provide all hot water for the site. A rainwater harvesting system will also be used for washing the vehicles.
Paddock Wood has the potential to create up to 300 jobs, incorporating employees from the three current sites.
