The Malcolm Group, which operates the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal, has invested more than £2 million in five Konecranes container handlers.
The new machines have to make nearly 6,000 lifts per week and have been taken along with an all inclusive five-year service and maintenance contract.
Steve Sugden, fleet engineer at the Malcolm Group, said: “Cooper SH is helping us reduce costs with the idle shut down facility. This automatically shuts the machines down if left idling for more than three minutes.
“Coupled with the Konecranes load sensing hydraulics technology, it is helping to achieve an extra 25 per cent capacity in workflow as well as reducing fuel consumption by up to 30 per cent.”
Other machine modifications include a shorter wheel base machine that has a lower steer axle weight when the machine is unladen.
Malcolm now has a fleet of eight Konecranes container handlers.
