Geodis Calberson has opened a new global distribution centre in Dover, extending its European wine distribution operations, currently based in Poole.
The company handles around 7,000 cases of wine each week for a number of wine merchants including Boutinot, Yapp Brother and Laithwaites in Europe, delivering wine imports to the UK from Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland and France.
Geodis has been working in the wine sector for more than 20 years managing the whole supply chain process.
It also provides bonded warehouse facilities and is Registered Excise Dealers and Shippers (REDS) approved, making monthly REDS declarations to HM Customs and Excise, as well as handling all excise duty paperwork.
Jamie Cuthbert, managing director of Geodis UK, said: “We have worked hard to establish this particular area of business, investing in personnel and processes to ensure optimum supply chain performance for our customers. The addition of our new Dover facility, with a specialist team in place, will reinforce our offer to the wine sector and enable us to apply best practice learned in Europe to a global market environment.”
Geodis UK already provides logistics the International Wine Challenge which takes place every spring. This event involves collecting entries from wine producing countries around the world in a jointly managed operation between Geodis Calberson and Geodis Wilson, the two operating companies in the UK of the Geodis Group.
The companies combine groupage and international freight forwarding to consolidate deliveries via air and road and deliver them direct into London.
