Packaging manufacturer Huhtamaki has signed a national transport network contract with Meachers Group.
Meachers will take over responsibility for all Huhtamaki’s deliveries within the UK and Ireland from the companies site in Gosport, Hampshire.
Deliveries will be carried out using a combination of Meachers’ current fleet and its fleet of newly acquired vehicles following a £2.5 million investment in 38 tractors and 40 trailer. A subcontracted element will also be undertaken via Meachers’ partner LinQ Alliance.
Gary Owen, warehouse and distribution manager at Huhtamaki UK, said: “Apart from the usual criteria of having an excellent reputation for service and a competitive pricing structure, our decision to appoint Meachers was also influenced by the advantages that Meachers is a local company with its own fleet.
“Of particular merit was Meachers membership of LinQ Alliance which means that Meachers will be sub-contracting to LinQ partners and will therefore have more control of shipments.”
Meachers has also recently updated it warehouse management system at its facilities in Southampton and Derby.
Huhtamaki manufactures paper, plastic, films and moulded fibre packaging for FMCG goods, fresh foods and catering disposable markets from its site in Gosport.
