This time last year 3PLs were struggling with the problems of growth: this year, of course, the market is very different. The motor industry has been hit hard and volumes are well down, but the big supermarkets have held up surprisingly well. The challenge for many logistics specialists is to be agile enough to deal with both situations at the same time.
There is still growth to be had. The Stobart Group, for example, has been busy on the acquisition trail turning it into a significant player in the market. And there is evidence that some of the industry leaders are planning to use the recession to boost market share either by acquisition or by driving competitors out of the market.
Logistics Manager’s survey of Top Logistics Service Providers is designed to provide the fundamental information needed in looking for a logistics partner – size, geographical coverage, market specialisation and so on. In addition, we aim to provide a round-up of what the company has been doing over the past year – any takeovers or mergers that it has been involved in, contracts won or lost, and major personnel changes.
To compile the survey we asked the companies to supply us with information, and, while we make every effort to be as comprehensive and accurate as possible, one or two companies have been omitted because we could not get the information necessary. If you think your company should be included in future surveys please contact the editor, Malory Davies, email: malory.davies@centaur.co.uk
