Traffic through UK ports was down by nine per cent in the first quarter compared to last year, according the figures from the Department for Transport. Inwards traffic fell by ten per cent, while outwards traffic fell by six per cent compared to quarter 1 2008.
Unitised traffic was down 14 per cent compared with the same quarter in 2008. Inwards unitised traffic was down 19 per cent and outwards unitised traffic was down seven per cent compared to quarter 1 2008.
