ALD Automotive says its ProFleet2 telematics system has helped police locate 30 stolen vehicles since it was launched 18 months ago.
The technology, designed to improve journey management and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, features a locater functionality which was activated by police to gain details on the vehicle movements.
Sgt Warren Hayward, of Dudley North Road Policing Unit, West Midlands Police, said: “The introduction of more advanced methods of tracking vehicles can only help to deter thieves, bring those responsible to justice and aid the swift recovery of stolen vehicles. I am impressed at how quickly high value vehicles can be recovered with partners working together.”
Although vehicle crime has dropped by more than 66 per cent since it peaked in 1995, nearly 1.5 million vehicle-related thefts were recorded in 2007-08 in England and Wales.
