Murata Electronics is set to launch a tiny RFID chip, designed to reduce manufacturing complexity and costs for paper tag inlays in asset tracking, retail and supply chain management applications.
The electronic MAGICSTRAP chip can be mounted onto a foil antenna pattern in a paper UHF tag inlay using ordinary non-conductive glue or sticky tape, and requires minimal placement accuracy so can be done by hand.
This compares to existing solutions, which Murata Electronics says require “micron-accurate placement onto conductive adhesive or solder by million-dollar machines”.
The chip measures 1.6mm x 1.2mm x 0.25mm and is readable over the band 860-960MHz with a long read distance of up to five metres.
