Norfolkline is expanding its refrigerated trailer fleet, to support its growing chilled and frozen distribution service, with a number of new trailers from Schmitz Cargobull.
The trailers will work out of Norfolkline’s Belfast site and will service several large food retail customers on routes throughout the UK and Ireland.
The logistics provider required a trailer design that could increase load capacity while reducing environmental impact.
Schmitz therefore increased the trailer’s height to 4.65 metres (with an interior floor to roof height of 3.3 metres) and incorporated a double-deck storage system, to enable the company to carry a higher volume of palletised loads within the same overall vehicle footprint.
As a result, Norfolkline has been able to reduce the number of journeys that it makes while providing the same service levels.
The trailers also feature the latest Thermoking SLX fridge units.
Ninety-nine per cent of the materials used in the production process is recyclable.
“The new trailers will make an important contribution to the greening of our clients’ supply chains,” says equipment manager Mervyn McIntyre.
