Dutch Flower Group has appointed Gist as its supply chain partner for its Columbia to UK route.
Gist has been working with the flower company for more than five years, and began by bringing around 100 temperature controlled loads of cut flowers per week from Holland into the UK.
Now, in addition to this, Gist is also responsible for transporting 200 tonnes of flowers by air from South America to the UK.
The third party logistics company secured the contract after identifying cost savings and service improvements for Dutch Flower Group and completing a trial period.
Gist is managing the end-to-end volume of cut flowers from farms in Bogota and Medellin through to Dutch Flower Group’s UK production sites.
The team will co-ordinate and manage the supply chain, including receipt of the purchase order, loading the flowers onto air freighters or in the cargo hold of passenger jets and receipt in the UK.
The Columbian supply chain takes 36 hours from the fields to Dutch Flower Group’s production facilities in the UK.
Henk Salome, divisional director retail of Dutch Flower Group, said: “Gist has been very innovative in their approach to improving our supply chain and has delivered Dutch Flower Group good value, not just in terms of cost but also service.”
