Somerfield has confirmed that Wincanton has entered into a consultation period with employees at the Bridgwater distribution centre it operates for the supermarket, ahead of possible redundancies.
Around 75 of the 400 members of staff at the depot, who work in warehouse, management, administrative and clerical roles, are likely to lose their jobs.
Somerfield has also just confirmed that Wincanton has started a 90 day consultation period with 190 employees at its East Kilbride distribution depot, with a view to its phased closure
The Co-operative took over Somerfield last year and was forced to sell on a number of stores resulting in the loss of volume, which triggered the potential redundancies.
A spokesperson for Somerfield said: “Somerfield and Wincanton will continue to work together to ensure that Somerfield stores and our customers continue to experience the high level of service and availability they have come to expect.”
