Honda UK Manufacturing has extended its contract with NYK Logistics for a further two years, supporting the reintroduction of production at its Swindon plant and to create new efficiencies in the supply chain.
NYK worked with Honda on the phased conversion of its UK suppliers from delivered to ex-works and will continue to provide collection and just in time delivery of components from 53 suppliers to five delivery locations in line with Honda’s production schedule.
A revised planning process has been implemented in a bid to maximise vehicles, which has helped to reduce the amount of resources required and by working with Honda and its suppliers NYK will also introduce more milk run collections, improving Honda’s carbon footprint.
In addition, IT systems have been introduced to minimise non-value added activity and reduce overall resource required to manage the UK collection service.
Honda originally appointed NYK in 2006 to plan and implement a JIT inbound transport operation from its UK suppliers into its manufacturing plant at Swindon.
