Office Depot has installed a fully automated racking and storage system from BITO at its facility near Frankfurt as part of an eight-year investment programme.
The 47 million euro facility, which totals 31,000 sq ft and provides 35,000 pallet locations.
It has been equipped with BITO’s PRO pallet racking and dynamic carton flow racks, as well as pick-to-light technology, automated mini-crane tote systems, ‘A’ frame automated picking machines, 4.7km of conveyors and two automated sortation systems for despatch.
The project was completed within a year and is part of a wider scheme to reconfigure the company’s Europe-wide distribution network.
The new highly automated distribution centre serves Austria, Southern Germany and parts of Central Germany on a next day delivery basis.
