beelocal, an online enterprise that will enable independent shops and producers to sell their goods via the internet and offer customers a 24-hour delivery service, has taken part of a former carpet factory on Aynam Road in Kendal, on a three-year lease as its first distribution centre for local food.
A £25,000 refurbishment will include installing giant refrigerators at the 2,000 sq ft unit. The beelocal team – who plan to employ six staff – expects the unit and web site (www.beelocal.co.uk) to be up and running by the end of September when shoppers will be able to log on and order their weekly shop.
