There is now some 106 million sq ft of available warehousing in the UK equating to 17.3 per cent of national stock, compared to 14 per cent overall availability at the end of 2007, according to Gerald Eve’s Autumn Prime Logistics Bulletin.
Only 1.2 million sq ft of new space (in units of over 50,000 sq ft) was delivered speculatively, the lowest level in over a decade. To put this figure into context, in the three years to December 2008, around 44 million sq ft of warehouse space was built speculatively.
