Truck registrations for August are down 45 per cent on last year at 1,855, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
Registrations for the rolling year reached 41,790, a decrease of 28.6 per cent.
Van registrations dropped by 34.6 per cent to 7.531 during August, and by 28.6 per cent for the rolling year.
Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, said: “August van and truck registrations fell again. The truck and van makers face exceptionally tough trading conditions and uncertain demand. Businesses’ own need for new vehicles are well down too. We expect van and truck registrations will stabilise at around 45 per cent down on last year.”
