3663 First for Foodservice has opened its £17.6m 120,000 sq ft multi-temperature distribution depot in Paddock Wood, Kent. It constructed the depot on the site of the town’s former Whirlpool warehouse, which burnt down four years ago.
The company is consolidating operations currently in Edenbridge and Sevenoaks, where it employs around 240 people, to Paddock Wood and is creating a further 110 jobs.
A spokesperson for 3663 said: “The new development was prompted by the need to find alternative facilities in the South East with the lease of two Dunton Green depots coming to an end.
“We have taken the opportunity to expand our infrastructure to provide a solid platform for growth and excellent service to our customers, which will take our supply chain into the future for 2012 and beyond.”
The new facility is 22,000 sq ft larger than the previous two combined. It boasts a 48,000 sq ft chilled area, designed to improve 3663’s delivery of fresh and chilled products across the UK.
