Nokia is collaborating with its trade customers in order to improve planning accuracy, availability of stock and visibility.
Thomas Luther, head of logistics in the UK and IE, told delegates at the Demand Driven Supply Chain conference on yesterday (13th October) that the company re-evaluated its supply chain in 2007 and discovered that its customers had unbalanced stock (Nokia carries no stock itself), old fashioned logistics, lots of non value-added work, and it was almost blind to its customers’ forecast plans.
The company began to redesign its processes. Luther said collaborative planning is now key to its approach and Nokia has weekly access to customer channel forecasts, carries out collaborative planning forecasting and replenishment, manages customer inventory within an agreed target and undertakes vendor managed replenishment collaboration.
Nokia is now benefitting from better planning accuracy, improved availability and full visibility to market.
