Micheldever Tyres has appointed Wincanton to set up direct import and trunking capability to handle all imported products.
The centre will be based at an existing Wincanton site in Kettering which will process more than 50,000 tyres each week, before their onward distribution into wholesale distribution centres to supply 22 per cent of the UK tyre market.
The new system will reduce lead times onto site following arrival at the port as well as reducing product movement and handling across the network.
Dave Haddock, logistics director at Micheldever Tyres, said: “The move to working with Wincanton was a logical one due to its expertise in container management together with the existing infrastructure and ability to streamline our container operations.”
