Baked goods manufacturer Speedibake, part of Associated British Foods, has signed a two-year temperature-controlled storage and distribution contract with Norbert Dentressangle.
Speedibake makes more than 200 own-brand bakery products such as muffins, ball doughnuts, baguettes and garlic bread, for the UK retail and foodservice sector.
It has a turnover of around £70 million and employs 600 people at two bakeries in Yorkshire.
Prior to signing the deal with Norbert Dentressangle, Speedibake’s storage and distribution was outsourced to two separate third party providers.
One of the reasons Speedibake chose Norbert Dentressangle was because of its ability to cost-effectively accommodate extreme fluctuations in demand at short notice.
Improvements in the allocation of stock have already delivered a 24 hour process time improvement, supporting a faster, more responsive service to customer, while better stock profiling and management has led to significantly reduced storage costs.
Speedibake’s supply chain manager, Mick Schofield, said: “The nature of our business means that we require flexibility on a grand scale. The ability to plug into Norbert Dentressangle’s shared network provides this flexibility and means that we only pay for what we use.
“At the same time, Norbert Dentressangle provides us with the stability of a large, well managed organisation and a highly personal service, all of which means that their solution represented the best of all worlds for Speedibake.”
