Morrisons has opened a 920,000 sq ft warehouse and distribution centre developed by Gazeley and Standard Life Investments.
Sale of the site to the supermarket chain was agreed in October last year. Under the terms of the sale, Gazeley completed the building in 42 weeks, after which Morrisons proceeded with the fit-out.
The sale follows an earlier pre-letting agreed with Morrisons, which was the South East’s biggest ever pre-let deal.
The warehouse complex is split across two units at Gazeley’s G.Park Sittingbourne, located close to the M2 motorway in Kent and will be used to supply the supermarket chain’s expanding number of South East stores.
The building has been designed to contribute to Morrisons’ sustainability objectives and aims to deliver 585,830kg of carbon dioxide savings through a range of eco-friendly technologies including solar heating, a grey water system, vertical wind turbines and efficient lighting control systems.
