Jersey Post has chosen Skillweb to develop an end-to-end mobile communications system for Ship2me, its home delivery service for Jersey and Guernsey.
Ship2me uses Skillweb’s Houndit technology system to track parcels from its distribution hub on the south coast of England throughout the supply chain process until it arrives at the customer’s door.
The tracking system uses barcoding, GPS tracking and hand-held scanners to monitor the status of an item at every stage of delivery with electronic signature capture providing proof of delivery.
In addition, customers receive automated email notification of delivery status, and SMS alerts are planned in the near future.
The system also include a consumer-facing web site where customers can purchase delivery and check on the progress of their orders, while a customer service system allows Jersey Post employees to manage all commercial transactions.
The depot system that manages the physical movement of all orders also generates detailed reports required by Jersey Customs and Exise to provide details of all incoming orders and supports Ship2me’s status as a Jersey Customs Clearance Agent.
Marcel le Claire, head of business systems at Jersey Post Group, said: “We chose Skillweb because of its specialist knowledge of developing effective parcel tracking systems. This expertise combined with its advanced mobile communications technology has helped us take Ship2me from a business concept to a proven delivery service.”
