Tine BA, Norway’s largest producer, distributor and exporter of dairy products, has commissioned Swisslog to design and implement a distribution centre in Oslo, worth £21 million (35 million Swiss Francs).
The greenfield distribution centre will be integrated with the existing production plant located in Kalbakken/Oslo.
The new facility is designed to support Tine’s future growth and boost the efficiency of its logistics operations.
“Our facilities need to perform strongly in order to meet the increasing competition,” said Kjell Sårheim, chief executive of Tine Meieriet Øst. “This project will secure the expansion of our logistics and production capacities for fresh food in eastern Norway.”
The distribution centre will feature two high-bay warehouses, pallet conveyors, an order release module subsystem for automated dispensing of “blue trays”, a monorail system and special pallets to handle roller containers.
The operational start of the facility is sequenced in three phases, with the first scheduled for early 2012.
