Drinks logistics specialist Tradeteam has bought 20 Volvo FH13s and five DAF CF85s.
The 6×2 tractors which operate at 44 tonnes and 460bph will be used for the dedicated bulk movement of drinks from Tradeteam’s operating centres at Burton-upon-Trent and Alton in Hampshire.
The new DAFs include a hatcher air spoiler developed for tall UK trailers above four metres. During recent trials with parent company DHL this modification recorded consistent fuel savings.
Each Volvo is fitted with an enhanced environmental engine which goes beyond the Euro 5 mandatory standards. All 25 vehicles have idle cut off and are limited to 85kph to help further reduce emissions.
Fifteen of the Volvos will take part in a special operational field test project to evaluate driver & truck behaviour with regard to additional safety features, which include hidden hazard sensors, spoken handbrake warning, AS-Tronic automated gear change, cruise control and air conditioning to reduce driver fatigue and enhance alertness.
