e-customs, the web-based customs clearance system provider reckons it is the first major UK software house to HMRC’s new Excise Movement Control System (EMCS).
Early on Tuesday 6th April (the start date), e-customs processed its first EMCS arrivals message.
EMCS is a computerised system for monitoring movements of excise goods under suspension of excise duty within the European Union, i.e. for which no excise duties have yet been paid.
It is replacing the paper document, the Administrative Accompanying Document, that currently must accompany such movements with electronic messages from the consignor to the consignee via Member State administrations.
ECMS became operation on 1st April but the migration period lasts until 31st December.
