Heinz is now using CHEP Euro pallets for delivering ketchup to supermarkets.
The food manufacturer has used CHEP’s blue half and quarter pallets for a number of years in Germany to deliver other products, including soups, stews and ready-meals manufactured by Sonnen Bassermann, a company which was taken over by Heinz in 1999.
CHEP will make around one million pallet movements each year for Heinz, 200,000 of which will be in Germany.
CHEP has estimated Heinz will save 16,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide by moving away from exchange and one way disposable pallets to pooled CHEP pallets over a ten year period in Germany alone.
