Business optimism has declined among small and medium sized companies in transport and storage, according to a survey by Bibby Financial Services.
Some 49 per cent of owners and managers of SMEs felt that trading conditions were extremely tough. This is despite highest output levels since September 2008, and represents worsening feeling since the last survey where only 32 per cent felt so negative.
However consistent output in Q4 2009 has encouraged some who see a chance for progress earlier. Ray Fairfoull of family run transport and logistics company Logic Trading said: “If positive signs continue to emerge I hope to see recovery towards the end of 2010 but, as ever, fuel prices will dictate the level of improvement.”
