Hampshire-based Premier Shipping and Packing came to the rescue of one of the yachts in the Clipper Round the World Race by delivering a new mast from the UK to San Francisco in just five days. The California suffered a broken mast when she as rolled through 120 degrees in a Pacific Ocean storm 2,000 miles from the race finish in San Francisco.
The operation involved transporting the 15m mast form Devon to Luxembourg by road and ferry, then to Los Angeles by air before it was taken to San Francisco by road. It was the second time in a month that Premier helped keep a team in the race, shipping two masts to China to meet the Team Finland yacht.
California’s skipper Pete Rollason said: “It’s great to see our replacement mast here so swiftly and it’s clearly been a great team effort by all concerned.”
