Sofa retailer ScS taken delivery of ten Mercedes-Benz 7.5 tonners taking its delivery fleet to 55 vehicles.
The vehicles are based at nine regional warehouses, from where they deliver furniture to customers’ homes.
Sunderland-based ScS was established more than 100 years ago and now has 96 showrooms as well as an online service.
The Atego 816s were supplied by Bell Truck and Van, and are fitted with GRP boxes, built to ScS’s own specification by Dependable Bodies, of Gateshead. The retailer’s fleet is all Mercedes-Benz – all are 7.5-tonners with the exceptions of three Sprinter vans.
Fleet Supervisor Jeff Ritchie said: “Although we’re very happy with Mercedes-Benz, we also wanted to test the market. So we drew up a short-list of three contenders, examined them all closely, and also sought feedback from our drivers.
“Once we’d weighed up factors such as running costs, performance, reliability, driver appeal, dealer support and the obvious benefit of staying with a tried-and-trusted solution, the Atego emerged as a clear winner.
“We know the trucks well and have complete faith in their ability, as well as enjoying good relationships with the Mercedes-Benz network – that’s important, because the vehicles are maintained by the dealer nearest to the warehouse at which they are based. Our drivers were pleased with the choice too as the Atego was definitely their favourite.”
