Peel Ports, owner of Port of Liverpool and Manchester Ship Canal, has bought the former site of the Bridgewater Paper Company at Ellesmere Port which it plans to develop for port-related uses.
The site includes 75 acres with potential for development is connected to road, rail and canal networks. Peel reckons the facility currently offers the cheapest end to end supply chain transport for most UK cargo.
Andy Martin, head of estates at Peel Ports Mersey, said: “The location, which is logistically second to none, is highly suitable for a wide range of port-related uses including manufacturing, processing, energy generation or distribution. “
Peel has plans to continue developments in the region, having recently doubled the capacity of its barge service from Liverpool to Irlam. It has also attained planning permission for a port at Warrington and plans more at Port Salford and Port Wirral.
