Stobart Group has launched a safety campaign aimed at reducing accidents and promoting safe working practices among its 5,500 employees.
The campaign will focus mainly on raising awareness of current Safe Systems of Work practices and highlighting the importance of complying with company health and safety procedures.
The drive to reduce accidents spans the entire Group and its Eddie Stobart, Stobart Rail, Stobart Ports, Stobart Developments and Stobart Air divisions.
To highlight and encourage safe working procedures, the campaign has adopted a ‘traffic light’ approach where staff will be encouraged to Stop, Think then Act. All employees will receive a pocket-sized reminder card and posters are being prominently displayed across the Group’s depots, warehouses and offices.
Health & safety manager Neil Marston said: “We don’t want people to stop working but we want them to work in a safe manner. By following our advice and just assessing the situation first, I’m sure we can prevent many of the simple, avoidable accidents that still seem to be happening.”
* Stobart Rail’s infrastructure and engineering division has been awarded a package of new rail maintenance contracts from Network Rail that will see waterproofing work undertaken at three railway bridges across the north-west. The work covers the Foxfield Viaduct on the Cumbrian Coast line near Millom and two other railway bridges over the M6 motorway at Knutsford and Sandbach in Cheshire. The works will begin in April 2011 and run until December 2011.
